But Hasbro isn't the only fish in the
party-game sea, and a couple of games published this
year by small publishers rank right
up there with Hasbro's best. Out of the Box's
Apples to Apples (4-10 players,
$20) presents a simple concept: From a hand of cards
printed with names of people, places, things and events,
choose one that matches the adjective card on the table.
It sounds almost too straightforward to be fun, except
that a typical hand might have you deciding which is
the most "stunning": "Dennis Rodman," "Anne Frank,"
"the Great Depression," "a high school bathroom" or
"rust." Put together half a dozen people trying to make
the same decision with an equally inappropriate set
of nouns to choose from, and hilarity invariably ensues.
