It's All in the Game
by Bruce Whitehill
American game companies on the move
Out of the Box Publishing is just over a year-and-a-half
old. The company was launched with a game called Bosworth,
a board game that uses cards (or is it a card game with
a board?), in which the cards move like chess pieces,
depending on the illustration silhouetted on each card.
I won't review the game here, since G3 has already done
so [G3: 129], but I will say that
the game is perfect for someone like myself who likes
a little chess but has neither the patience for it nor
the talent for its complexities. And you don't even
have to know chess, just the moves.
The name comes from the battle fought on Bosworth Field,
England, in 1485, which helped bring an end to the 30-year
War of the roses. Henry Tudor, of the house of Lancaster,
defeated King Richard of the House of York, making Richard
(take note trivia buffs) the last English king to die
in battle. Henry VIII, the king from that popular song
some decades ago, united the country and Richard III
was immortalized in Shakespeare's play of that name.
Anyway, the game has nothing to do with history, just
the strategy of play.
