This is one darn clever game, and especially good
for those of us who are geographically challenged (even
though the rule card states some tiny countries are
not shown). Strategy starts at the very beginning as
you draw country or transportation tiles. I drew Finland
right off. On what day should I place that on my tile
holder? That’s where the luck comes in. I placed
it on day 1, then drew my second card, Sweden. Well,
looky there – they happen to be neighbors. Transportation
cards are needed to make flights or passage by boat
to other countries. Some countries have free ferries,
but you can only travel by plane to countries of like
colors, for example, yellow Spain to yellow Greece.
Passage by boat can only be over the sea or ocean indicated
on the boat card, so watch yourself. What we found
was most difficult was making connections to some countries
when you can’t move them from one day to another.
The trick is in finding the right country to move when
you draw another country or transportation card. The
second game is easier to play then the first, obviously,
especially once you begin to remember where all these
little countries are located. (Slovenia anyone?) Because
there are four piles, the draw pile and three discard
piles face up, figuring out where you want to go (and
finding the right country) is easier. Population and
area is included on each country tile, to further improve
your education.
