It was the folks at Kadon Enterprises who first brought Octiles
to theUSA, and this splendid game was duly selected for our
Games 100 in 1985. We thank Kadon for enriching the lives
of players everywhere by giving its blessing to a less expensive
but still attractive edition.
We're proud to reintroduce this game
of gliding paths on the eightfold ways. Seventeen facedown
octagonal tiles slip gracefully and randomly into 17 spaces
on the gorgeous wooden board. An eighteenth octagon sits faceup
in a slot. Five starting spaces on each side of the board
hold a set of colored pegs belonging to each player. Whenever
octagons meet, there is a small square on which a peg may
land. On the faceup side of each octagon is a unique arrangement
of four curves, each of which forms a path between two sides.
On your turn, exchange the octagon from the slot for any octagon
faceup or facedown, on the board. The replacement octagon
lies faceup. You must then move one of your pegs along a
path until it lands on either a vacant small square or a starting
space opposite your own. Part or all of this path must lie
on the replacement octagon. It is especially satisfying to
cleverly glide your peg along a winding road of several octagons
before it comes to rest. But take care which octagon you leave
in the slot for your shrewd opponent! Win by getting all your
pegs into the starting spaces on the opposite side of the
board.
For those rare days when opponents are hard to come by even
for such a magnificent game, three solitaire games and several
puzzles are included for your pondering pleasure. Bliss!
